Xiaomi Air Purifier vs Dyson
#1 — Xiaomi Air Purifier 2 vs Dyson Pure Cool Am11
The Mi Air Purifier 2 is a portable, lightweight, silent Air Purifier that easily serves its purpose. It has a three-layer filtration system ( Primary, EPA and activated Carbon) and cleans out dust, second-hand smoke, particles and fibres from the air in the room.
The Dyson Pure Cool Am11 is an air Purifier that supports HEPA (High-Efficiency Particulate Arrestor) technology and sends the relevant information to the Dyson Link App. At 3.6kg net weight, the Am11 is lighter than the Mi Air Purifier 2 by roughly 1.2kg.
Both the Mi Air Purifier 2 and the Dyson Pure Cool Am11 are tower Air Purifiers. The Mi has a minimalistic finish and does not look out of place when kept at home. The Dyson, on the other hand, is slightly longer than the Mi and can be easily concealed in a room as it looks similar to a tower speaker.
The Xiaomi is definitely robust and is definitely going to take a considerable amount of space when compared to the Dyson. While both look good in their own way. When comparing the designs straight up, we’ll have to give the crown to the Dyson, it’s sleek and is quite lightweight. And most importantly, it’s made out of some pretty high quality materials.
The Mi pulls in air from all four sides and releases the filtered and treated air out the top. Whereas, the Dyson uses a bladeless fan to expel the purified air across the room. The plus point with the Dyson is it also acts as an Air Cooler and who wouldn’t want a nice clean cool airflow. Most importantly, the Dyson offers targeted blasts of air. Unlike the Xiaomi that purifies the air in all four directions, the Dyson offers immediate relief from the heat.

In terms of performance, the Dyson Am11 is designed in such a manner that it silently works flawlessly. The unit is built to display the increase in pollutants in a room and the sound output was measured at approx. 60dB once at full speed. The Dyson Am11 has a total of 10-speed settings that can be changed based on the size of the room, location of the purifier or simply the number of occupants in the room. The Dyson Am11 is capable of removing 99.95% microparticles without any kind of leakage.
On the other hand, the Mi Air Purifier 2 offers a high 310m³/h clean air delivery rate and would roughly take 10 minutes to circulate the purified air in a room that has the surface area of 21m².
The Mi 2 has a 360 degree filter that absorbs air from all sides and using a triple layer filtration system, is able to remove micro particles as small as 0.3μm. Ths Air Purifier 2 consumes lesser energy than even some energy-saving light bulbs.
The Am11 is equipped with two pre-installed filters; a true HEPA Filter and an Activated Carbon Filter. These filters help remove small airborne particles, bacteria, pollen and other micro-particles as small as 0.3μm in diameter. Whereas, the Activated Carbon Filter helps in removing odors, gasses and smoke from the surrounding air.
The Mi Air Purifier 2 uses a Toray EPA filter along with an Activated Carbon Filter for a clean air cycle. The filters are calibrated at 3.5mm intervals for sustained airflow. The Activated Carbon filter is combined with an anti-formaldehyde formula to effectively absorb harmful chemicals, odors and smoke. Both the Air Purifiers notify the user when the filters have to be changed/cleaned.
While the Mi 2 air purifier is more effective than the Dyson, it unfortunately burns through filters. So, you’ll have to keep replacing the filters every 3-4 months depending on the type of pollution your dealing with. The Dyson on the other hand is more of a fan than a purifier. While it does purify the air it is extremely slow. With respect to the filtration, the Xiaomi air purifier takes the cake.

#2 — Xiaomi Air Purifier 3 vs Dyson Pure Cool Link Tower Fan
The Mi Air Purifier 3 carries the same design as the Air Purifier 2. A tall box with a minimalist design and matte finish. In this model, the old circular top grille has been replaced with a new square design. The Air Purifier 3 has a few significant upgrades that will be explained.
The Dyson Pure Cool Link Tower Fan looks like a classy and expensive alternate. The Tower Fan has an elongated ellipse which means that it stands on the floor and not a table or desk. Designed as an Air Purifier and Regular Fan. It displays the levels of pollutants present in the air and also has a purifier-only mode that stops the outflow of cold air.
The Mi 3 has an OLED touch screen that allows you to check the PM 2.5 levels, temperature, humidity and WiFi connection. You’re even able to toggle between Sleep mode, Automatic mode, Low/Medium/high speed all at the simple touch of the screen.
The Mi 3 is designed to provide 360 degree filtration in any room of the house. The Mi 3 uses a centrifugal fan + custom brushless motor that improves the output volume of clean air.
The Dyson Pure Cool Link Tower utilizes an Air Multiplier technology that directs the airflow through the blades around the outside of the fan. This technology projects over 360 litres of air per second and combined with 350 degree oscillation so the clean air gets dispersed evenly across the room.

In terms of performance, the Mi 3 is a step up from its predecessors. The Mi 3 now comes equipped with a new centrifugal fan and also includes the HEPA filter that blasts clean air out at over 380 cubic meters an hour. The Mi 3 is an efficient beast that clears out 99.7% dust, smoke and fine particles in the air.
The Dyson comes equipped with 10 different speed settings. It tends to get noisier as the speed is increased. Dyson has claimed that this Air Purifier can be used as a high power cooling fan as well and that the HEPA filter is capable of capturing over 99.95% of ultrafine dust, particles and impurities in the air.
The Mi 3 uses a 3 layer composite filtration system with a True HEPA filter. They are:
- Primary Filter – Removal of larger particles in the air such as hair and dust
- HEPA Filter – Takes care of upto 99.97% smoke, dust, pet fur, mold spores and other particles that are as small as 0.3 microns.
- Activated Carbon Filter – Eradicates foul smells, toxic substances and formaldehyde.
The Mi 3 comes with a CADR (Clean Air Delivery rate) of 380m³/hr and can provide clean air in an enclosed space of upto 484 sq.feet.
The Dyson uses a 360 degree glass HEPA filtration system to capture dust particles and impurities from all angles and a secondary filter that is a tris activated carbon filter for odour and Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) removal. The HEPA is Grad 13 certified which means that it is an ideal Air Purifier for Hospitals and Clean Rooms apart from Houses and Offices.

Upon comparing these 4 Air Purifiers, it is evident that all 4 are pretty good and have good reviews and ratings. However, each one is slightly different in their own way. The Mi Air Purifier 2 uses a standard EPA filter whereas the Dyson Am11 uses a HEPA filter. In this case, Dyson takes the lead as HEPA filters are more inclined to eradicating particles and pollution thoroughly as compared to the Mi 2.
On the other hand, in the second case of the Xiaomi Air Purifier 3 vs Dyson Pure Cool Link Tower Fan. Both Air Purifiers use True HEPA Filters and filter out even the toughest particles. Here it is all about size and looks, but not to forget the price point. Dyson is typically much more expensive as compared to Mi and Mi has a nice little minimalistic design that gives you the feeling of happiness wherever you place it. However, the Xiaomi Air Purifier 3 slightly takes the lead with respect to both the price and effectiveness.
All four Air Purifiers are built for home/office use and not for extremely large areas as they won’t be able to cover the total metric of the room.
Is Xiaomi air purifier good?
The Xiaomi air purifier is pretty damn good. Not only is affordable but it also comes with the beautiful device and effective features that put even the Dyson to shame. However, you should invest in the Xiaomi Air purifier 3 and not the 2. This 3rd generation model really stands out and is one of the best in the market due to its filtration capabilities.
