Now, Xiaomi’s penetration of markets often leads to big changes. Known for their quality and affordability, Xiaomi has a knack for making expensive tech much more accessible, and through accessibility, they’ve allowed all kinds of products to be adopted into the mainstream. Of course, Xiaomi has also had a few hits and misses over the years, so today we’ll be looking at Xiaomi’s first ever electric scooter – the Xiaomi M365 – to see if it can go toe-to-toe with Segway, who currently dominates the market with its Ninebot line.
In this product comparison, we’ll be putting the Xiaomi M365 up against the Segway Ninebot ES2 and ES4. At first glance, it’s easy to see that the Xiaomi M365 is a cut above the Ninebot ES2 from Segway. While both models sport high-quality, durable aluminum alloy frames, the similarities pretty much end there.
Everything from speed, motor power, tire sizes, battery duration, and more, are all different, with the Xiaomi M365 scoring points over the Segway Ninebot ES2 by a landslide. Here’s the rundown:

Speed and range are two of the most important factors to consider when buying an electric scooter. Top speed lets you know how fast you can go – and adds considerably to both the enjoyment and the practicality of an electric scooter – and range tells you how far you can go.
The Xiaomi M365 wins in both these categories with a top speed of 26.8 kph and a maximum range of 23.5 km on a single charge. By comparison, the Segway Ninebot ES2 can hit speeds of up to 25.7 kph, with a maximum range of 15.7 km. Although the speed difference isn’t that significant, the Xiaomi M365 does pull ahead with a 1.1 kph faster top speed, but the biggest difference here is in the range: the Xiaomi M365 goes almost 40% farther than the Segway ES2 on a single charge.
Even if you consider the much more expensive Segway ES4 and its additional battery pack, Segway would only be a little further ahead in terms of range – and that’s counting both batteries.

Another big factor to take into consideration when you’re in the market for an electric scooter is power. After all, you don’t want your electric scooter to be struggling with ramps and inclines. Ideally, your electric scooter will be able to offer versatile performance that can get you through your daily commute with no issues, or go anywhere you dare to go without holding you back. In this regard, both the Xiaomi M365 and the Segway Ninebot ES2 deliver substantially.
The Segway Ninebot ES2 comes with a powerful 300 W motor that gives it plenty of torque, allowing it to go from 0 to 60 in just 5.4 m. Surprisingly, the Xiaomi M365 has even more power, boasting acceleration rates of 0 to 60 in just 5.1 m. It’s a small difference in power, but given that it’s a smaller 250 W motor on the Xiaomi M365, it makes you think about how efficient and well-optimized the Xiaomi variant is that it can allow for more power despite the discrepancy in power output.
Battery & Charging – Xiaomi M365 vs Segway Ninebot ES4 Comparison
Electric scooters can be a lot of fun – the electrical motors give you plenty of speed while maintaining fantastic levels of ease and convenience no matter where you go. That is, at least until you run out of battery. After that, they’re just regular scooters with a bit of added weight. That’s why when picking the right electric scooter for you, it might be a good idea to consider battery performance and charging time, too.
The Xiaomi M365 comes with a large 280 Wh battery, which explains the excellent maximum range and overall performance. By comparison, the Segway Ninebot ES2’s battery is significantly smaller at just 187 Wh. In terms of charging time, the Segway Ninebot ES2 is the clear winner, allowing users to get a full charge in just 3.5 hours, but considering the fact that the Xiaomi M365 has a larger battery overall, the 4.5 hours (up to 6 hours depending on the power source) will still last longer when you’re out and about.
The Segway ES4 does come with an additional battery pack to make things a little more convenient, and it’s hard to argue against an extra built-in battery for the sheer advantages it provides, but the added cost might just outweigh the benefits.
Braking & Stopping Time – Xiaomi M365 vs Segway Ninebot ES4 Comparison
Electric scooters aren’t just fun, they’re plenty safe, too, but one of the biggest factors that contributes to electric scooters safety is the quality and performance of the braking system. The Xiaomi M365 combines electrical, regenerative brakes – i.e. brakes that allow you charge your battery a little bit when you use them to slow down your scooter – with high-performance disk brakes for improved stopping times and better overall safety.
By comparison, the Segway Ninebot ES2 also makes use of regenerative brakes, just minus the disc brakes. Instead, the Segway Ninebot ES2 uses a standard mechanical foot brake to supplement the regens.
Suspension & Tires
Better suspension offers a better quality ride overall, since the shock absorption will allow riders to pass comfortably over more difficult terrain – think bumpy roads, off-road trails, potholes, etc. In this regard, the Segway Ninebot ES2 definitely pulls ahead with its Front and Rear suspension system.
By comparison, the Xiaomi M365 has no suspension – not on the front, and none on the rear either. If you’re not planning on taking your scooter off-road, or are perfectly fine with the less-than-comfortable tactile feel of an uneven road, then the Xiaomi M365 is still a good choice.
However, if you want that versatility and comfort no matter where you go, the Segway Ninebot ES2 will give you what you want thanks to its suspension. The Xiaomi M365’s Air tires won’t be doing it any favors here, either, while the Segway Ninebot ES2’s solid rubber tires will add even more comfort and stability to your riding experience.
Weight & Portability
The Xiaomi M365 and the Segway Ninebot ES2 weigh pretty much the same – around 12 kg – which is definitely light enough for comfort and sturdy enough for safety and security, all thanks to the lightweight aluminum alloy used in both frames. They also fold in a similar fashion for easy carry and storage.
The Xiaomi M365 comes with a very spartan LED display that acts as a glorified battery indicator, whereas the Segway Ninebot ES2 has the battery indicator as well as speedometer built into its brighter and larger LED display.
Xiaomi M365 vs Segway Price
The Xiaomi M365 is available at a suggested retail price of $400. By comparison, the Segway Ninebot ES2’s SRP is $568. However, thanks to retail sales like the kind you find on Amazon, some stores sell the Segway Ninebot ES2 for just $400, too.
In this battle between the Xiaomi M365 and the Segwaythe Xiaomi M365 wins by a landslide. For superior specs in most categories including speed, range, power, and battery life, you’ll be paying just $400 for the Xiaomi M365. Alternatively, for better suspension and a more comfortable ride if you’re planning on taking a lot of off-road trips or bumpy paths, the pricier $568 Segway Ninebot ES2 might still be worth your money.
